How to Make the Easiest Cowl in the World
This cool little cowl that is a quick, easy piece that you can knit or crochet. I found the piece in a Russian language video on Youtube. I was intrigued by the construction, eventually, I had to make it. I was so happy that I did because, I think, this cowl is something that knitters and crocheters will be gifting for years to come.
There is a free pattern available on Ravelry. The Ravelry link takes you to a Russian-language pattern site. Scroll down below the Russian instructions to find the English instructions. Make the cowl in any yarn, with any needles. It’ll be a great stash buster.
I made my sample in Berroco Topaz in the color way Landscape. Mom did a Tunisian Crochet version (pictured above in the color way Watercolor.
Learn how to make one in the photo tutorial below. Or you can click here to watch the podcast episode where we demo the folding method.
I’ve also included some charts with cast-on or starting chain numbers for five weights of yarn from fingering to chunky. Click here to download. If you make one please tag us on instagram @aksyarnstore and us the hashtag #aksy2021gal .
Knit or Crochet a rectangle that measures approximately 18”x 10”
Fold one corner up towards the center of the piece.
Now you have a parallelogram.
Slide the two folded edges apart until the overlap is only 4 inches
Seam the edges. I used mattress stitch, but any seaming method is fine.
Yay, you’re almost done.
Weave in your tails.
Fold the cowl in half. Folding one point down over the other. Tada! You’ve done it!
